Water Purifying Kiosks

Coca-Cola's EKOCENTER Aims to Improve Quality of Life in Developing Nations

Coca Cola and DEKA R&D have teamed up in order to create the ‘EKOCENTER,’ a kiosk that comes equipped with Slingshot water distiller, in order to improve and provide drinking water in different parts of the world. The kiosk will also store food, refrigerated vaccines and health care information.

According to Designboom, "the initiative aims to improve the holistic well-being of developing communities around the world, focusing on those within the ‘bottom of the pyramid,’ the largest, poorest socio-economic group – representing nearly 4 billion people who live on less that US $2 per day." The solar-powered kiosk, transformed out of a former shipping container, is also armed with Wi-Fi connection and satellite communication abilities and acts as a sun-shelter.

It’s nice to see a company as successful and influential as Coca-Cola doing their part to improve the impoverished conditions of developing nations across the globe. The beverage retailer plans to distribute the EKOCENTERs in 20 different countries by 2015 – which will provide clean drinking water to an estimate of about 500, 000 people.
