Tasaki Replaces Their Store Mannequins with Androids

Normally, the presence of robots doesn't necessarily urge non-geeks into a purchase, though that's starting to change thanks to Japanese jeweller Tasaki, whose in-store mannequins have been replaced by fashion-conscious androids.

A one-month-long exhibit is underway and is meant to act as an experiment; can sophisticated robotics imply style, or at the very least luxury? In order to answer the question, Tasaki chose the cross-cultural elements of diamonds and technology as the theme of the exhibit, located in Tokyo's shopping epicenter Ginza Mall. For starters, a $26 million kaleidoscope graces the entrance of the downtown store, startling customers at first glance. Just beyond the installation are several graceful, albeit pre-programmed robots whose fingers are covered in stylish diamond-encrusted rings. The androids may not speak, but they're capable of intricate dances and performances.

Thus far, robots have been an overlooked tool for sales and marketing. Personally, I'd be much more inclined to stick around a store if I were being helped by an android.
