Snug Styrofoam Sofas

The Moldable Chair Takes its Design from the Styrofoam That Covers Fruits

Inspired from the styrofoam wrapping that cover fruits, Japanese designer Keisuke Fujiwara's styrofoam sofa is both soft and flexible, molding to the shape of the sitter.

Often found on apples and other fleshy fruits, the styrofoam sofa is the stuff of supermarket play toys. By creating a functional yet aesthetically clever piece of furniture decor, Fujiwara brings a sense of comfort derived from the sense of comfort and protection offered by the styrofoam.

The ovular chair, which has a large indented area for where the user sits, is beige in color and has a meshed design. While just by looking at it, the styrofoam sofa may look like a meshed wooden chair you've sat on before, the malleable chair guarantees a snug fit for whoever sits in the chair.
