The three dimension String Jungle Gym design by Croatian-Austrian collective Numen/For Use is spectacular. The prototype and self supporting social structure was built from climbing ropes that are strung parallel to one another within an inflated spherical tent. The filigree interiors are never exposed so the jungle gym interior is always a surprise.
The structure is collapsible and the ropes loosen once the volume deflates. The 3D grid string jungle gym is capable of holding human weight since the tense ropes are strung tightly when the structure inflates. Visitors can climb through and explore with caution.
The interesting design of the string jungle gym is supposed to resemble Dadaist collages. There is an immense feeling of absence of space when climbing through the contraption.
The prototype project was built in Vienna Austria, but hopefully the brilliant architectural play space makes its way to North America.
