Unique International Architecture

BBC.com and Travel and Leisure have joined forces to select their "World's Strangest Buildings". The collection of architectural oddities spans the globe and focuses on 32 absolutely unique constructions. Canada, England, Austria and China are all well represented. Many of the selections, such as St Petersburg's barcode-styled complex, exhibit a slightly ironic, and thoroughly contemporary tone. An apartment complex in Jerusalem and London's "Container City" also give off an air of playfulness and complete originality.

Other entries which made the cut include a 70 million dollar lighthouse, a spacey, futuristic department store, an imposing hotel overlooking the Black Sea, and a French building containing the largest solar furnace in the world. For fans of architecture, aach of these edifices is well worth adding to your travel itinerary.
