Instant-Charge Smartphone Batteries

These Batteries by Storedot Can Be Fully Charged in Seconds

Israeli start-up StoreDot is developing a smartphone battery that can go from being dead to having a 100% charge in under 30 seconds. A prototype of StoreDot's battery was demonstrated at Microsoft's 'Think Next' symposium in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The StoreDot battery makes use of 'nanodots,' chemically synthesized molecules that improve electrode capacitance and electrolyte performance in batteries. The end result is batteries that can be fully charged in seconds rather than hours or minutes. StoreDot claims that unlike other nanodot technologies based on toxic heavy metals, its nanodots are made from environmentally friendly bio-organic raw materials.

While StoreDot is focusing on developing the technology for smartphone batteries, it could also be adapted to electric cars in the future. StoreDot hopes to begin mass production of the smartphone batteries in late 2016.
