Reconfigurable Walking Canes

The Stick 1/2 Can Be Kept Retracted or Withdrawn to Make a Crutch

The elderly population that suffers from some physical discomfort and disability may find that they'll gradually accumulate a collection of assistive accessories. The Stick 1/2 is a clever alternative to many of the available types of mobility equipment, both for practical and economical reasons.

Snežana Jeremić's design -- when kept compact -- takes the form of a short cane. This is helpful as a walking stick, held by one hand at waist height for support. However, should arthritis, injury or otherwise result in more crippling stiffness or pain one particular day, the Stick 1/2 can be extended thanks to its telescopic tube. The upper half of the handle can be pulled upwards to form a single crutch that tucks comfortably in the armpit. One's fingers can wrap around the handgrip of the 2-in-1 prop.
