British designer Steve Areen built a magnificent dome-shaped home in a remote mango farm in Thailand for just $9,000. The dome home looks like belongs in a children's illustrated book, and you'd expect it to be populated by a family of friendly talking bears.
Areen decided to build his dream home after visiting a friend who was involved in building dome-shaped homes for a Thai retreat center in 2011. With the help of his friend, Areen managed to set up his dream home in just six weeks. The structure of the home cost under $6,000 while furniture and other add-ons brought the total cost up to $9,000.
The home was built using cement blocks and clay bricks. It includes a relaxing swimming pool in the backyard and features a gazebo on top of the bedroom. Areen says he is now looking to build a similar property in Oregon in the United States, but will use more sustainable earthen bricks.
