Eco-Friendly Coffee Covers

Starbucks EarthSleeves Will Save 10,000 Trees

Starbucks has launched another social initiative, the Starbucks EarthSleeves, an eco-friendly development that aims to reduce the number of trees used for the company's hot coffee cup sleeves. There are about 3 billion hot cup sleeves produced every year in the United States, and those from Starbucks represent roughly half of this number, says the brand's press release.

Created in partnership with LBP Manufacturing and Henkel, the Starbucks EarthSleeves are made with a proprietary technology that will require less material to make the sleeves, thereby saving about 10,000 trees in the process. The Starbucks EarthSleeves will require about 34 percent less raw fiber material, and the new technology will, at the same time, produce about 25 percent more content without taking away from the sleeve's function.
