More often than not, people find lemon and orange juicers made out of plastic or metal, but Squeezer by Jacopo Ferrari, an industrial and product designer based in Gressoney, Italy, is crafted out of clay. A rustic terracotta alternative, it was appropriately part of the Terracotta Everyday exhibition set up by FID Federazione Italiana del Design at Superstudio during Milan Design Week this past April.
What makes Squeezer by Jacopo Ferrari intriguing is its unglazed upper part, which rests on a colored rubber gasket that is knotted through the handle. It was left unglazed in order to slowly absorbs the orange flavours, assuming, of course, that orange is predominantly used. The prototype was turned, sculpted and cooked by Maria Luisa Tribolo.
