This Sports Headgear Helps Deaf Athletes Pick Up Sounds Better

Steeden, an Australian company that specializes in sports gear, has collaborated with none other than toothpaste giant Colgate in order to develop special sports headgear that is designed to assist deaf athletes in better picking up sounds around them while they're engaged in their sport of choice.

This sports headgear features a special garment that sheathes the external elements of a cochlear implant, a device that typically comprises a microphone and speech processor and which boosts voices and converts them into electrical impulses for wearers. On top of that, however, this headgear features specially routed channels throughout its padding in order to convey sound waves and enhance auditory perception.

Presently being trialed by athletes including Jamie Howell of the Queensland Australian Football League Women's, this sports headgear showcases promise in helping to boost accessibility for athletes with hearing impairments.
