Back to the Roots Creates Soil Packaging from Post-Consumer Recycled Plastic

As of 2024, organic gardening brand Back to the Roots will be transitioning its soil packaging to certified circular, 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. This first-of-its-kind innovation for the garden industry will see the brand's best-selling Organic Potting Mix packaged in 100% PCR packaging created in partnership with ProAmpac.

All the while supporting a sustainable and circular economy, the packaging is as durable as needed for products stored and used outdoors. "Acknowledging the fact that only ~5% of all plastic ends up being recycled and soil packaging is traditionally landfilled, we challenged ourselves on how to try to make our bags out of recycled materials to start the road towards a circular plastic economy," says Co-Founder & Co-CEO Nikhil Arora.
