Smart Street Lighting

Madrid is Upgrading to Smart Street Lights Courtesy Philips

Philips is collaborating with the Spanish capital city of Madrid to install smart street lights across the city. A grand total of 225,000 smart lights, 84,000 of which will comprise LEDs will be installed in what is the largest smart street lighting project to date. The non-LED lights will be changed to more energy-efficient lights. The lights will offer improved light quality as well as cost savings and efficiency, and will make it possible for Madrid to control and monitor the city's street lights using its existing control system.

These new smart street lights are expected to save Madrid 44% of its lighting energy usage compared to its current infrastructure. While installing the technology comes at a cost, the cost will be offset by the financial savings offered by the new lights.
