Sk8shades Breathe New Life into Old Boards

Made from the remnants of old skateboards that have rolled in empty swimming pools and grinded inner city rails, each pair of Sk8shades are infused with the soul of an actual skateboarder.

South African skateboard ramp builder Dave Wit custom makes the Sk8shades from scratch. After stripping the grip tape from the skateboard deck, he cross-cuts the blanks which are then laminated. The blocks are then sliced into veneers and sanded smooth.

For the next stage, Wit shapes the frame and lens aperture into two unique templates and uses the skateboard's nose and tail to craft the curved temple pieces. Finally, the frames are given one more hand sanding before the hinges and rivets are glued in place.

In the end, you get a one-of-a-kind product that is both fashionable and eco-friendly.
