Upcycled Flexible Shelving Systems

Layer and Kvadrat Teamed Up on 'The Shift' Shelving System

Benjamin Hubert's design studio Layer worked alongside Danish recycled textile label Kvadrat in creating the Shift Shelving System. The Shift shelving system was created to serve the ever-changing needs that exist within retail settings. It also doubles as an acoustic wall panel as well and will be making its debut at this year's Milan Design Week. The system is constructed from Kvadrat and Really's Solid Textile Board, which is a material that is crafted from upcycled textiles compiled from the fashion and textile industries.

The Shift shelving system can function as a display foundation, storage unit, or an acoustic panel, all held by a range of magnets. The textile shelves are highly flexible, as they can fold out to be rearranged and fixed with screws and bolts.

This product marks Layer's very first collaborative work with Kvadrat and it is important because of its response to the global issue of waste and challenges the way that people can reimagine the use of available resources.
