The Settlers of Catan is a strategy based board game made in Germany that is sweeping the world. Invented in 1995 by Klaus Teuber, the game is highly addictive to anyone who plays. Players compete to collect different resources such as wood, wheat, sheep, ore, and brick. Using these resources players can build settlements and cities to gain even more resources, or roads to expand one’s empire. The trading of resources is also allowed which usually leads to alliances and enemies. Players can also use resources to buy development cards which can assist players in many different ways. An online version is also available which allows people from all over the world to play together.
One reason the game is so magical is because all players share a special bond. Meeting someone for the first time and finding out they play Catan automatically tells me that this person is sweet and someone I want to know. Catan is not just a board game, it is a way of life.
