Paintings Found On The Fore-Edges Of 19th Century Books

Secret paintings have been discovered that can only be seen when the pages of the books are fanned out a particular way! The paintings were discovered by Colleen Theisen who found the fore-edge paintings on the 19th century books within the library in the University of Iowa.

Some paintings were done in series where this series is one about the seasons; showing that of spring, summer, autumn and winter. The pictures show the particular way you are to hold the pages of the book in order to see the hidden paintings.

Although the paintings are quite small they are extremely detailed! Tiny trees with intricate branches and snow covered houses with tiny icicles cover the side pages. It is exciting that we are only just discovering such masterpieces now...and who knows what is to come!
