Iran has won nine medals at the RoboCup 2008, which was held in China’s Suzhou city from July 14 to 20, but it was Germany who dominated the event.
Iran’s three gold medals came from the 3D Competition of the Simulation League, the Technical Challenge of Middle Size Robot League at the RoboCup Soccer section, and the Infrastructure Competition of the Rescue Simulation League at the RoboCup Rescue section. Two more silver and four bronze medals were won in assorted leagues.
Germany, on the other hand, dominated the show. They won all medals in the Mixed Reality Simulation League. China was also a strong presence, but curiously, Japan only won a few medals.
RoboCup is divided into four major competitions: RoboCupSoccer, RoboCupRescue, RoboCupJunior, and RoboCupATHome. Each of these competitions has a number of leagues. For example, RoboCupJunior has four leagues: Soccer Challenge, Dance Challenge, Rescue Challenge, and General.
According to Wikipedia, RoboCup (Robot Soccer World Cup) is an international robotics competition founded in 1993. (And this isn’t the first time Trend Hunter has covered it...) The aim is to develop autonomous robots with the intention of promoting research and education in the field of artificial intelligence.
