India is discussing regulating blogs. A recent NDTV show hosted by the popular Barkha Dutt who is managing editor of 24x7 moderated a discussion of bloggers and legal experts. The same discussion is taking place in many other countries raising the possibility that blogs may be licensed or otherwise controlled by the government.
Implications - The global adoption of the Internet has created a muddled, murky environment for laws and regulation. Since no single country or business "owns" the Internet, legislators have had a difficult time enforcing real-life laws on copyright infringement, trademark violations, slander, libel and cyber crime.
