A new recycling scheme is in place Rome and the initative will definitely have an impact due to its lucrative offer. It is called + Ricicli + Viaggi (which translates to + Recycle, + Travel).

The idea is to assure that citizens and visitors do their part for the environment and get rewarded in a useful way. The recycling scheme asks for people to bring PET plastic bottles and exchange them for metro fair. The waste is collected and sent for processing. One bottle equates to € 0.05 and each transaction translates to online credit. At € 1.50 per journey, each individual has to bring 30 bottles to secure a free ride.

The recycling scheme is especially useful for those who have trouble affording the subway, as well.
