The Puur Pavilion by Emma Architecten is a Fresh Take on a Fortress

The Puur Pavilion by Emma Architecten features a curvilinear design that is both futuristic and reminiscent of ancient architecture. The home of a former solider shelter, the spiral structure is located in Fort Diermerdam, Amsterdam. The building is situated on Amsterdam's defense line, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The modernized fortress design is the work of Dutch design studio Emma Architecten whose aim was to marry history with today's modern design ideals. Transforming the aesthetic of its past, this new pavilion takes on an organic form, resembling a spiral stair case.

The Puur Pavilion by Emma Architecten features a wooden wall that wraps around its interior while its facade boasts countess natural Cedar shingles, displayed together in varying wood tones. Mirroring its surrounding hillside landscape, this circular structure is a contemporary take on a historical gem.
