Inspired by the story of Van Gogh descending into psychosis and cutting off his own ear, this pool sculpture stands in New York as a gravity-defying reminder of the artist's sad tale.
The pool sculpture stands at the entrance of the Rockefeller Center and was designed by artists Elmgreen & Dragset. Appropriately titled 'Van Gogh's Ear,' the sculpture looks like a pool that stands upright in the shape of an ear. The sculpture is complete with a ladder and a diving board and its lights and vibrant blue color give the appearance of pool water that is defying gravity by not spilling out onto the street.
The exhibit by the creative duo will remain outside of Rockefeller until the beginning of June and will then move on to China.
