This Drone System Conveys Pollution Info to a Smartphone

A team of high-powered scientists and engineers working out of the Federal University of Uberlandia and the Universidade Federal de Goias situated in Brazil have developed a high-tech drone system that is designed to deftly and accurately measure pollutants from the very airborne environments where they tend to spread, dissipate and cause havoc upon the environment.

This 3D-printed drone system is designed to be able to monitor and measure pollutants that are airborne, before then leveraging Bluetooth connectivity in order to be able to convey data to a companion smartphone app. Currently, this drone system has been proven to be an intelligent monitor of hydrogen sulfide, which it detects on the basis of a chemical reaction that is linked to a glowing dye which acts as a visual indicator.

Costing only around $50 to construct, this drone system aims to complement existing pollution-monitoring technologies that tend to be ground-based.
