No More Cheesy Family Photos

Christmas cards are getting more personal again. Remember when, years ago, families went to their local mall to get their annual Christmas photo taken? These photos were normally filled with unhappy kids with fake, cheesy smiles, ugly matching sweaters, and you didn’t get a chance to review the images before they were mass produced for all your friends and family to see.

Things are different now and with practically everyone owning a digital camera, the process has become much improved. People are very happy to finally have a purpose for all their digital photos. Because of this, digitally printed photo Christmas cards are becoming quite popular.

Web-based companies like Zazzle now have thousands of template-based photo Christmas cards with borders and holiday themes to add a little "something extra" to the card. Since they’re printed one by one, it’s now possible to cheaply make a sexy holiday card for your wife, a more conservative one for your mother-in-law, and a card for your buddy showing him passed out on your couch with marker all over him.

The way I see it, there’s no reason to send the store-bought generic cards anymore. In a few years, it’s possible that people will expect their cards to be custom made.

Hell, even the Bishop of Reading realizes how pointless a non-personal card is.
