'Redefining Paper' Witnessed 8 Artists Showcasing the Medium's Potential

These creative paper designs are all part of an art series that tests the potential of the under-appreciated medium of porcelain-white paper itself. James Cropper Paper began this project titled 'Redefining Paper' by asking eight different artists to use their creative juices on the simple and pure raw material.

Some finished pieces were extremely intricate and detailed, while others were as simple as a single sheet with multiple cuts to produce a "minimalist clock." A huge helix structure was created by James Donegan to fill gallery space, each small section held in place by the specific cuts made to interlock the pieces.

The project also showcases the difference in perception of a single object versus many. For example, the 'Porcelain Vase' is a series of thin paper rings glued on top of each other, creating the look of a clay tube. Meanwhile, Megan Ocheduszko created contemporary jewelry out of spun paper, making it easy to misinterpret the simple medium for twine.
