The Otrivin Air Lab Turns Pollution and CO2 into Decor

The Otrivin Air Lab has been created by Claudia Pasquero and Marco Poletto of the ecoLogicStudio as an example of how we could reduce pollution and CO2 in a beneficial way.

The exhibition is located in London and features a series of 12 photobioreactors, which are each filled with 10-liters of living photosynthetic microalgae. Each one of the photobioreactors thus absorbs CO2, releases oxygen and produces biomass that's used for crafting bio-rubbers, bioplastics and 3D printing filaments. The materials are then transformed into home decor products that are sustainable and biodegradable.

The Otrivin Air Lab encourages visitors to take part in the harvesting process to help them better understand the process and enhance their sense of connection to the natural production experience.
Trend Themes
1. Pollution-reducing Design - There's a growing demand for products and designs that not only reduce pollution but benefit from it, like the Otrivin Air Lab's use of living microalgae.
2. Sustainable Home Decor - Consumers are increasingly interested in home decor products that are sustainable and biodegradable, creating an opportunity for the use of bio-rubbers, bioplastics, and 3D printing filaments in decorative pieces.
3. Interactive Exhibitions - The Otrivin Air Lab's emphasis on visitor participation in the harvesting process shows a trend towards interactive exhibitions that enhance the visitor's understanding and sense of connection to the experience.
Industry Implications
1. Environmental Technology - The use of microalgae in the Otrivin Air Lab's photobioreactors could translate to innovative ways of reducing pollution and CO2 emissions in the environmental technology industry.
2. Sustainable Materials - The development and use of bio-rubbers, bioplastics, and 3D printing filaments in the Otrivin Air Lab exhibition offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the sustainable materials industry.
3. Museum and Exhibition Design - Exhibitions like the Otrivin Air Lab that feature interactive and innovative design elements could spark new ideas and approaches in the museum and exhibition design industry.
