The Olnick Spanu House is a Reinterpretation of a Minimalist Classic

The similarities between the Olnick Spanu House and the Farnsworth House by Mies van der Rohe are utterly uncanny. The original minimalist home was built in 1951 in Plano Illinois and this contemporary interpretation finds its 21st century roots in Garrison New York.

Designed by Alberto Campo Baeza, this elegant abode features pronounced horizontal emphases through the sweeping patio and the overhanging roof. Expansive curtain wall windows make the home a virtual fishbowl of exposed interior activity and at night, the country dwelling becomes a beacon, lighting up its lot like a glowing lantern. The main floor of the Olnick Spanu House embraces an open-concept plan, as unobstructed by piers and walls as possible to allow liberal movement within.

The transparent Olnick Spanu House differs from its predecessor thanks to further occupiable space that's hidden underground within a vault of smooth ashen stone. Complete with a panoramic view of the hills ahead, this is one domicile I'd die to live in.
