This Towable Power Plant Will Bring Electricity to Remote Regions

The Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation has unveiled a high-tech floating nuclear power plant, dubbed the Akademik Lomonosov, that claims to be able to safely and efficiently harness nuclear energy and transport it to some of the more remote regions of the sprawling country that is Russia.

This floating nuclear power plant is equipped with a pair of reactors that can work to churn out up to 70 megawatts of energy, which is estimated to be sufficient to take care of the electricity needs of cities with populations of up to 100,000 people. The plant will initially be situated in the town of Pevek.

Designed to be able to withstand the natural threats that can occur at sea, this nuclear power plant aims to make it easier for Russia to disperse electricity to far-flung regions.
