Blind Way-Finding Apps

This Clever Navigation App Helps the Visually Impaired Around Campus

This navigation app for blind students was designed by five math students as part of a 'hackathon' competition. Jakub Kmiotek, Łukasz Ławniczak, Miron Marczuk and Tomasz Urbaszek from Warsaw University of Technology as well as Jagiellonian University's Szymon Stankiewicz won the Campus App Challenge's main prize with their Indoor Available app prototype.

Currently undergoing further development, the navigation app helps blind students find their way around university campuses. The mobile application uses GPS technology, voice navigation and the university's information system to help the visually impaired access personalized routes and alerts. Indoor Available could also be used for general navigating outside the university, but by syncing to the student's course schedule and the university's system, users are notified if classes are cancelled or change locations.
