Welsh artist Mick Petts has designed a natural sculpture that resembles a horse when viewed from above. The artist was raised in the Welsh countryside and was familiar with the high peaks of the Welsh landscape. Petts decided to honor the natural environment by creating a sculpture that was completely integrated with the land.
The natural sculpture is located in the Parc Penalta in Caerphilly, Wales. The sculpture itself spans 200 meters wide and it was built with over 60,000 tons of coal and shale. When viewed from afar, the sculpture resembles a large horse. The name of the piece is 'Sultan the Pit Pony,' which gives a nod to the types of horses that used to carry coal to the mines from the 18th to the 20th century.
