Completely Compostable Coffee Pods

Muskoka Roastery's Coffee Pods Completely Biodegrade in 84 Days

Muskoka Roastery is aiming to solve a problem that has cropped up around coffee pods. Whereas a few years ago, coffee pods were the unabashed rage, today consumers are concerned with the large amounts of waste that the single-serving cups create over time. In response, Muskoka Roastery's pods are 100 percent biodegradable while still being fully compatible with Keurig machines, giving consumers an eco-friendly option when it comes to coffee convenience.

Muskoka Roastery's coffee pods are called PurPods, and they were developed as a parnership between the roastery, Club Coffee (a Canadian distributor,) and the Bioproducts Discovery and Development Centre at the University of Guelph. According to research, the PurPods fully biodegrade and disappear from their compost site after just 84 days. And since the pods are made from coffee chaff (a byproduct of the roasting process,) they help foster a sustainable, closed-loop system.
