Mushroom Book Installations

Artist Melissa Jay Craig Visualizes the Messages of Plants and Fungi

(S)Edition is an art installation made up of whimsical mushroom books, 99 to be exact. Although it is something that looks like it jumped straight out of author's Charles Lutwidge Dodgson vision of Wonderland, the mushroom book installation is the visualization of another artist's thoughts.

Created by Melissa Jay Craig, an artist based in Chicago, Illinois, the mushroom books are based off of common common Amanita Muscaria fungi. She shares, "When I was a child, the first time I had the intriguing feeling that the planet carried messages (texts, if you will) for those who were curious enough to look, was when I came upon a group of Amanita Muscaria, huddled together in a dark, secret space under tall pines." This installation captures her original childlike wonderment.
