Statistic-Expressing Cuisine

Moritz Stefaner Creates Food as a Means of Data Expression

Moritz Stefaner takes a unique approach to representing data and statistics. The designer does not make infographics, flowcharts or bar graphs: he instead uses food as a medium for data expression.

Stefaner, alongside art organization 'prozessagenten,' creates everything from sushi rolls to cake, but they all have hidden meanings. They are a part of his workshop series aptly called 'Data Dishes.'

The results of the data experiments include a noodle dish that represents the sex life of young people in Barcelona, a shrimp cocktail that represents social media popularity and a fried dorada fish dish that represents the emigration of young people in Spain. Most of the time the visual representation and the number of pieces of food showcase the numerical values of the statistics and the food itself acts as the categorical representations.
