MomGenes Highlights How Postpartum Depression Could Be Genetic

In anticipation of National Women's Day, MomGenes Fight PPD—a research study by The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill— launched a new campaign in an attempt to raise awareness about postpartum depression. The study is looking to determine if there a genetic cause for the issue with the end goal of finding a cure.

As the namesake playfully suggests, the study is seeking 100,000 qualified moms who have had PPD symptoms to donate their DNA—aka their "mom genes" to learn more about PPD. To participate, download the app (available on both the App Store and Google Play Store) and take the survey about their experiences with PPD. The study will then mail eligible participants a HIPAA compliant salvia kit to be returned.
