Repurposed Printing Houses

Meyer Davis Designs the Proxi Eatery with Mid-Century-Style Furniture

Located in Chicago, the Proxi restaurant occupies a building with a history and boasts beautiful mid-century-style furniture, including sizable bowl-like lamps, modern chairs, burnt orange leather booths and glossy tiled pillars. Previously, the space was used by Werner Printing Company.

Designer Meyer Davis uses similar coloring and stylistic elements with distinct hits of mid-century-style furniture throughout. However, the Proxi restaurant can be divided into distinct areas that share repetitious design decisions. Each of these spaces is "decorated differently with custom-made" pieces and the their elements communicate in a specific complimentary way. For instance, in a space that is adjacent to the window, the walls are treated with "white-washed oak paneling and sage green painted decorative moldings." As a result, the decidedly navy and burnt orange furnishings are able to create an artistic and noticeable pop.
