The Micro-Generations

Trend Hunter Dives into the Importance of Micro-Generation Groups

Trend Hunter's Chief Content Officer, Armida Ascano, dives into the many Micro-Generations and the importance of analyzing each of these groups through a different lens. This is covered via a five-part iteration of Trend Hunter's Innovation eLearning series on YouTube.

Ascano begins by outlining the origins of each generation, noting that the surface-level categorization of each generation, such as Gen Z, Gen X, or Millenial, hardly begins to convey the true importance of each group. These macro categorizations can offer useful statistics, such as Millenials being the largest population in North America, Gen Z being the largest when factoring in the entire world, and Boomers having the largest percentage of women in their generation.

The desire for more specific insights is what leads to the Micro-Generations categories, splitting each macro generation into two or three sub-groups, such as the Gen Z being split into Z Tribe and the younger Z Alpha, or separating Millenials into Pro, Mid, and Nouveau Millenials. With these more targeted Micro-Generations established, Ascano dives into each generation in detail, offering insights on the pressures, lifestyles, and desires of each Micro-Generation.
