Melter 3-D by Takeshi Murata, a graphic designer represented in both San Francisco and New York, is a mesmerizing sculpture that looks as though it were made out of molten lava or, perhaps more accurately, melted metal. Rippling down the surface of a large sphere, the art piece looks as though it is perpetually melting. Granted, since it involves a three dimensional animation and is not a simple sculpture, that is exactly the case.
Recently unveiled at Ratio 3 in San Francisco, California, as part of the Frieze art fair, Melter 3-D by Takeshi Murata is "a zoetrope, and only achieves the illusion of motion with the help of a strobe lights or perfectly synchronized still images captured with a camera," as written on This is Colossal.
