Fantastic Contraptions by Stephane Halleux

These strangely enchanting sculptures are part of the 'Fantastic Contraption' exhibition this summer at the Device Gallery in La Jolla, California. The peculiar creations, which remind me of animated characters by director Tim Burton, are from the mind and hands of 36 year old mixed media artist Stephane Halleux from Belgium.

“I like crazy mixtures, unlikely associations, advanced technology mixed with mechanisms of long ago. I've always been fascinated by robotics, its advantages and contradictions,” Halleux says. Of his work Halleux says they are, “caricatures of robots that have gone beyond the limits, all that with a fanciful vision of the future.”
