This Low Energy Residence in Maine is Up to Passivhaus Standards

Passivhaus is a voluntary standard that ensures energy efficiency in buildings and this low energy residence in Maine is designed after these standards.

The Cousins River Residence is, on the outside, a simple looking home sitting on a beautiful plot of land, but designers from GO Logic ensured that the interior of the home is not only energy efficient, but modern as well. The home was built using "super insulated foundation," high performance windows and a "heat recovery ventilation system with 88% efficiency." The low energy residence is built to have high ceilings and a mix of a barn-like atmosphere with modern features -- including the stainless steel kitchen.

By enforcing strict energy standards upon themselves, the designers of this home were able to creatively build a house that is not only beautiful but has a very small ecological footprint.
