Large Scale Green Communities

This Plan Proposes the Largest Green Roof in the World

Architect Rafael Vinoly has proposed to transform an old shopping area into a multipurpose development that sits beneath the world's largest green roof.

The land Vinoly plans to redesign is in close proximity to both of Apple's old and new headquarters, which is currently under construction. The prime real estate currently houses an aging mall, but Vinoly's mixed use plan wants to build a 30 acre green roof. The roof space will span multiple buildings and allow for various pedestrian connections. Essentially, Vinoly plans to use roofs as an extension of the community.

The proposed green roof will be home to vineyards, orchards, an amphitheater and playgrounds. The area under the roof will also allow for apartments, shopping and recreational spaces.

A place like this can only add to the innovation, creativity and technology that is so closely linked to Silicon Valley.
