Conquering Garden Installations

Kris Verdonck's Exhibition Asks Who is the Alien Invasion Species

Theatre maker and visual artist Kris Verdonck's garden art installation is quite unique in that it delves into the idea of what 'alien invasion species' truly means. This label refers to environmental instances when a particular species thrives outside their natural distribution area and threatens biological diversity. By packing terrestrial plants, crustaceans, insects, fish, amphibians, birds and other organisms from the Invasive Species in Belgium list on the first floor of the contemporary art space Z33 in Hasselt, Belgium, Kris Verdonck conducts his own little experiment.

By supplying white rubber boots, a pair of gloves and a lab coat, Kris Verdonck also invites visitors to be scientists and explorers as well -- or perhaps he sees humans as the truest alien invasion species.
