Belgium photographer Sofie Knijff has created a series of incredibly moving portraits called Translations. The project was inspired by Knijff's travels to South Africa, Brazil, India, Mali, Greenland and Iceland over a span of three years. Her intention was to photograph children dressed as their dream jobs or dream character.
Through the series of portraits, she creates a platform that acts to vocalize the children's voice and make their dreams come to life without uttering a single word. According to Knijff, the challenges of the project "was to build a subtle and yet sustained level concentration to capture the moment of transformation."
By photographing the children against the same backdrop, she effectively immortalizes the children's dreams in her pictures, untainted by the impact of time.
