At this point in time, the Internet feels like it's an ever-present entity that simply exists and yet the Kites & Websites art exhibit shows that there are actual physical infrastructures all over the world that help keep it going. Although that makes sense, the lack of visual proof of these areas makes them seem almost mythological.
Yet Paris-based American artist Evan Roth decided to travel to these global submarine fiber optic cable network landings in order to capture them for his audience. Kites & Websites showcases videos "of each site with a modified infrared (IR) camera and recorded sound using an instrumental transcommunication device he built himself," writes Fast Co Design. The results are mesmerizing.
