Unfurlable Hybrid Furniture

The Karpett Rolls In and Out for Your Ideal Reposing Position

How many submissions in a flooring exhibition do you think present visitors with something so similar to a couch? Karpett by 5.5 Designers was developed with this playful dual quality which demonstrates the versatility of materials.

This peculiar project actually employs a material called Tarkett which is manufactured almost exclusively to cover concrete slabs. The French firm decided to do something quite different with it however, by installing it as a spool so that the sheet can be rolled up and out to serve as two different types of furnishings simultaneously.

Raised upon four short legs and enhanced with a spongy cylindrical backrest, Karpett by 5.5 Designers acts effectively as a sofa. Unwinding the pull-out roller will decrease the size of the seat but provide a cushioned carpet along the floor for sitting, lounging and sleeping.
