Clustered Geometric Sculptures

John Powers Handcrafts Digital-Like Masterpieces

John Powers creates mind-boggling sculptures out of hundreds of blocks of polystyrene packing material. Although these works of art could easily be considered digital masterpieces, especially when viewed online rather than in person, they are three dimensional creations that are full of dynamic layers.

As though borrowing from a range of influences such as art movements like post-minimalism and pop culture icons like Star Wars, John Powers constructs his intricate sculptures by hand. The polystyrene blocks are cut precisely and glued together at 90 degree angles.

John Powers’ work is currently being showcased at the Abstrakt—The Systemized World exhibit, which is part of the NODE10 festival in Frankfurt, Germany. It was curated by Eno Henze and Marius Watz.
