Modernized Classic Food Containers

Johanna Kleinart Designs Gorgeous Glassware for Preservation

Johanna Kleinart, a recent graduate at the Stuttgart State Academy of Arts and Design in Germany, created a stunning line of glassware modeled after classic Weck Jars, which itself borrowed design elements from Mason Jars. Modernized for the contemporary household, Johanna Kleinart's design revisits traditional food preservation methods, which are once again growing popular.

Created for her graduation project, Johanna Kleinart designed a new sealing mechanism that she reveals is "based on an O-ring, which has several advantages compared to the conventional flat gasket." Not only does this make it easier to open, but it keeps food dry even better. Since the lid is not glazed, it can be labeled again and again witha water-soluble pen.
