iPhone 3G Voice Dialing & Control

iSpeak

An obvious functionality omission in Apple's 3G iPhone is voice dialing. Fonix fills this gap with iSpeak, a voice activation application for the iPhone 3G. Thanks to the iPhone's developer's SDK, third-party applications are starting to make up for these missing functionalities.

iSpeak allows you to dial someone by saying either the phone number or the person's name if it's stored in your contact list. You will also be able to browse through your music and media library, play a song, or start up a playlist by simply saying the name of an artist, song, or playlist.

According to Fonix Speech, Fonix iSpeak “includes a run-time engine that sits on the phone allowing users to interact with the personal contents of their Apple iPhone™. Unlike other voice applets that enable voice search of the Internet by sending commands over the airwaves, this client-side application gives users the power of voice interaction with their personal content and eliminates network latency.”

I say it's about time! I am sure Apple wants us to keep caressing the iPhone's sexy multi-touch screen with our fingers, but you gotta give people options. If I am driving or eating, I'd rather control my phone with my voice than with my fingers. It's not like the iPhone doesn't have what it takes under its hood to provide these functions:
