Mike Kretz, Front End Developer (INTERVIEW)

As Front End Developer Mike Kretz shows in this interview, an impressive video resume is the newest way to push the creative envelope while simultaneously displaying one's skills and qualifications to potential employers. Kretz also discusses his adoration for the welcoming and team-oriented spirit that Trend Hunter offers, as well as a design project he is proudly leading.

How do you define cool?

I define cool as something that you go and find that's inspiring to you. Something you've never seen before that amazes you. You get that tingly feeling, you're like "oh this is really cool I want to show it to other people, I want to inspire other people with this kind of stuff." That's really what I define as cool.

What is your favorite trend and why?

My favorite trend is how more people are doing an interactive and impressive video resume. One of our past interns named Harris created a comedic CD that he put up on YouTube. They are using these kinds of things to push the envelope on how they present themselves in a creative format.

What is your favorite thing about working at Trend Hunter?

My favorite thing about working at Trend Hunter is the whole community that we have here. You feel more like you are working together as a team, you are socializing as a team. We have our monthly fun days, we have our beer parties every Friday, which is pretty awesome. We have that laid back attitude, but we work really hard too. It's just a great environment for anyone to work at.

What's your favorite accomplishment?

My favorite accomplishment so far with Trend Hunter is something I am working on right now, which is really cool. Just to give some background information, the way the web is shifting is that websites are trying to make themselves flexible on any form of media. I am leading the design for creating Trend Hunter to look good on your mobile device, on your tablet and this is all encompassing responsive design and that's really cool.

Predict something awesome for 2020?

What I see being popular in the future, which has already started now and I really hope it keeps going and growing, is the whole idea of crowdsourcing and crowdsourced learning where everyone can be involved in the process of designing something or putting together a project. One of the great things with Kickstarter is anyone and everyone can help out some sort of project that they have a passion about.

What is one of the remarkable ways you see businesses changing?

One of the ways that I see businesses changing is how people are going to start on their hopes and dreams at a really young age. They are going to go forward with that as early as they can so that they can learn from their mistakes and hopefully strike it rich. There is a strong entrepreneurial community that people are going for.
