A series of hyper-realistic paintings by Roger Riodegaki imitate knitted sweaters. Though the artworks may look like they're made of yarn, the paintings are actually made with oil paint.
Every stitch of each knitted painting was painstakingly painted on. After dividing the canvas into a grid, each stitch was uniformly plotted out. Riodegaki used up to six layers of color to make his paint imitate wool. The resulting illusion of a sweater is very hard to discern from real knitwear.
Riodegaki's collection of paintings was meant to show the cute patterns on a child's sweater. Adorable animals like bunnies, birds and dogs were portrayed in this pseudo-knitted artwork. Simple flowers and patterned backgrounds were also made using his intricate painting technique.
