Floating Pyramid Artwork

Tomas Saraceno's Gravity-Defying Architecture is Sustainable

This gravity-defying architecture used wind and solar power to stay in the air. Tomas Saraceno designed and conceived the pyramid-like sculpture, named Solar Bell. The Solar Bell project is the final piece of artwork meant to be part of the Rotterdam expansion with the construction of Maasvlakte 2. Solar Bell is meant to redefine the architectural landscape as it hovers in the air. This is similar to Saraceno's vision for a sky-bourne metropolis, called 'Cloud City.'

The three-dimensional gravity defying architecture is made from super slender solar panels and other lightweight materials. The eco structure is also environmentally sustainable, as it was built using minimal waste and contains no redundant structural elements. The piece is lifted into the air by wind and stays there by drawing on the sun's energy.
